Canadian Armed Forces Chaplain Opportunities

The Canadian Armed Forces is seeking full time Regular Forces Chaplains and part time Reserve Chaplains. The CAF is looking for people called by God to serve the soldiers, sailors, and aviators in the Canadian Armed Forces.


For direct entry:

  • You must have all of the following: bachelor’s degree, MDiv degree, ordination and 2 years work experience after ordination, prior work experience before ordination does not count,

  • You must be in good standing with CNBC,

  • You must be fit and pass medical and physical test,

  • You must be willing to work with and for people of different faiths, religions and genders,

  • You must be a Canadian Citizen or have a Permanent Resident, and

  • You will need to pass a chaplain selection board, BMOQ and all CAF chaplain courses,

  • Pay is $7668.00/month and up for direct entry.


For MDiv students there is the SEELEM program for Regular forces and RESO for Reserve

entry. SEELEM application has limited applications.


Job Description:

  • Ministry of presence within your appointed unit, squadron or ship,

  • Informing CO of morale issues,

  • Going on deployments, operation, and exercises both domestic and international,

  • Training and managing sentinels which are a peer support program,

  • Meeting the spiritual needs of CAF members and their families, and

  • Presiding at a base, wing or ship chapel on a rotation schedule.
