Cuba Connection

Canada has a special relationship with Cuba. We export food and products, and many Canadians choose Cuba as a tourist destination. We are one of only two Western Hemisphere countries who have maintained uninterrupted diplomatic relations with Cuba for the past sixty years.

CNBC has a special relationship with the Eastern Cuba Baptist Convention. The Cuba Connection Ministry is an intentional commitment and partnership between CNBC churches and
the Eastern Cuban Baptist Convention.

God is doing exciting things in and through our Cuban Baptist brethren. There is much that we can learn and there is so much that CNBC churches have to offer in return.

Will you consider making a Cuba Connection?

WHAT TYPE OF CONNECTION ARE YOU LOOKING TO MAKE?

Prayer Connection – A church, a family, or an individual commits to pray for the work across Eastern Cuba.

Partner Connection – A commitment to partner with a specific church or ministry by supporting church planting in Cuba. Your assistance could be in the form of a monetary offering, sending a mission trip team to serve a church in Cuba or by partnering with another CNBC church in an ongoing ministry that has a Cuban focus.

HOW DOES OUR CHURCH MAKE A CUBAN CONNECTION?

Please contact our ministry team to learn more. Email us at jvanover@imb.org to communicate with our team. We can answer your questions and help you in your next steps.

Resources are very limited in Cuba, and we are called to be good stewards of what God has entrusted to us. It is important that CNBC churches always contact the CNBC Cuba Connection Ministry team before finalizing plans. This helps ensure good communication and a strong partnership between our conventions and the local churches across Canada and Cuba.

RESOURCES AS YOU CONSIDER PARTNERSHIP:

We have developed a handbook which will answer many of your questions. This book describes the history of the partnership, team preparation ideas, logistical concerns, safety issues and many other valuable topics that will affect your consideration for making a trip to Cuba.

It is a must read for those that are seriously considering a journey. Please email us at jvanover@imb.org share your interest and to request a copy. We can also have you speak with other CNBC pastors that have partnered in the past or that are currently working in Cuba.

IN THE HANDBOOK YOU CAN READ MORE ABOUT:

  • WHAT TO PACK - Do not assume that any basic essentials will be available once you arrive on the island. Even electricity and running water can be a challenge.

  • COMMUNICATION & EMERGENCY CONTACT ON ISLAND - At least one person on the team should have an international cell phone plan. Geopolitical changes can also affect travel to Cuba.

  • VISAS - Your team must have the proper entry visas and travel preparations made months ahead of time. *Visa applications must be submitted no later than 3.5 months before your team's departure date and no other names will be added or substituted once the applications have been submitted. Visas vary in processing time but typically take the full three months to receive. There is support to complete this process.

TIMELINES TO KEEP IN MIND:

  • 6 months prior to trip - Begin planning the details of your trip: (Preferred dates, partners, and type of ministry. No more than 10 people per team.)

  • 3 months prior to trip - Begin regular team meetings to pray and prepare for the journey.

  • 1-3 months prior to trip - Book plane tickets and make final preparations.
