Week 4, Day 2: Pastor Ashley Austin

In partnership with the North American Mission Board, the CNBC has the privilege of investing in North American Missionaries all over Canada, most of whom serve as church planters. Today, we want to pray specifically for these church planting missionaries and simultaneously introduce you to this year’s spotlighted North American missionary, Pastor Ashley Austin. Ashley Austin and his family will be featured in next month’s Horizon for our Global Mission Offering (GMO) emphasis.

Ashley and April Austin planted Canvas Church in Victoria, BC, in 2013. At its beginning, Canvas Church consisted of nine adults and six children meeting in the Austin home. Now, five years later, they are a thriving community of 400 and have successfully multiplied with a second church.

“We really want to be a church that is actively involved in joining God in what He is doing around the world,” Austin says. “We as a congregation long to see God doing what only He can through His people.”

As a church who is actively surrendering to the Spirit of God, Canvas Church started in obedience to a call from God to serve the community well. Still today, Austin says this is one of the core values of the church. Austin says it is Canvas’ desire to be a life-giving, Jesus-focused, relationally driven, family strengthening, and community serving church that matches its context and reflects Scriptures.

Points of Prayer

  • Pray for church planters all across Canada who, like Pastor Ashley, are investing their lives in communities for the purpose of planting life-giving churches. Pray for strength and encouragement as they seek to serve their communities well.

  • As the summer approaches, pray specifically for the various outreach events these church plants will host. Pray that many in the community would respond in faith to the Gospel.

  • Pray for the Global Mission Offering. Ask God how He might be calling you to participate. Pray that God would multiple our gifts and offerings for the advancement of His Kingdom!
