Doing a VERSE study

Jesus expected his disciples to become students of the Word (“You’re truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings ...(John 8.31-32). One way is verse studies, taking a Bible verse and examining it for spiritual truths. A verse study helps a Disciple apply the Bible, and prepares them to feed others the truths they’ve learned.

Preliminary: no verse exists in isolation. It has context. It’s part of a paragraph, chapter and book of the Bible. Context is important...

Biblical materials: Suggest a verse with content and a good application. Like this, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced. Mark 4.19. Assign it to them, and give them time to study.

How? Read, research, write, journal, apply, pray.

Observations: Verse studies are the building blocks of a Disciple’s life. This is how God transforms us, so we can become like Jesus.
